Liturgy:
The word liturgy comes from the Latin, leitourgos; leitos (public), and ergo (work). Liturgy is “the work of the people.” Basically, the rhythm, the arrangement, and the elements through which the people of God carry out their worship.
PUBLIC WORSHIP:
Worship is the highest and holiest work everyone is called to. Worship is a gift from God; it’s prescribed, enabled, perfected, and delightedly received by Him. Our work alone–void of the Triune God’s involvement–would be reduced to meaningless rituals. For true worship to happen we need God’s Word in dialogue with us, the person and work of Jesus Christ as the central message and catalyst of our service, and the work of the Holy Spirit turning people’s hearts toward God.
WORSHIP ARTS
The Liturgy & Worship Arts ministry team is the team involved in crafting liturgies and leading the congregation through the various elements of our liturgy through artistic expressions. Some of these elements include Scripture readings, prayers, confessions of faith, and songs. Other elements in our liturgy such as the sermon and administering the sacraments are direct responsibility of New City’s pastors and officers.
NEW CITY MUSIC
At New City, our musical aesthetic incorporates elements from different cultures around the world, and traditions that span centuries; in this way, we desire to represent the Church in space and time. Our music anticipates the day when people of every nation, tribe, and language will gather in complete reconciliation. The collection of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs that we lift up to the Lord in worship are the fruit of our endeavors toward a multi-cultural and reformed liturgy.
