New City Presbyterian Church’s ministry to children focuses on discipline them in the foundational truths about God as revealed in Scripture, and encouraging active participation in the worship of God.
Worship – All children are welcome and expected to join the congregation in worship. Our congregation deeply values the presence of children, and is delighted to serve growing families by extending grace and modeling Christian worship for your children. Here are a few suggestions to help you and your child get more out of the service:
Consider sitting toward the front of the sanctuary, where it's easier for children to see and engage with what's happening.
Quietly point out the different parts of the service in the bulletin, and explain what the pastors, elders, and musicians are doing.
Help your child join in by singing the songs, praying the prayers, and voicing congregational responses. Children learn how to participate in worship by watching you worship.
If you need to step out of the sanctuary with your child, that's completely fine. The Welcome Area and Gathering Place both have live sermon audio. Please rejoin us in the sanctuary when you're able.
Children’s Sunday School – On Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM, from September through May, we offer three classes: Preschool-1st Grade, 2nd-3rd Grade, and 4th-5th Grade. Through the use of curriculum from Great Commission Publications, children are discipled in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ at their appropriate age and learning level. Each classroom is led by a teacher and assistant.
Vacation Bible School – Held in early June each year, Vacation Bible School is a fun-filled week each summer where kids dive into God's Word through songs, crafts, games, and Bible stories. All children in the community are welcome to join us for this exciting time!
Collide – Collide is our Sunday evening ministry to 4th and 5th graders focused on fellowship and digging deeper into the Christian faith. We meet the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 6-8pm to play, sing, snack, learn, and pray together. Our prayer for Collide is for our children to take hold of their faith and begin walking it out together in love.
Easter – On Palm Sunday the children participate in the worship service in a special way, by processing into the sanctuary waving palm fronds. Then on Easter Sunday, all children are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt on the front lawn after the worship service.
Christmas – Each Christmas the children of our church put on a simple Christmas pageant, reciting portions of the incarnation narratives in the gospels, and singing Christmas carols. A fun Christmas cookie reception follows the pageant. All children in preschool through 5th Grade are invited to rehearse and participate with us.
All classes and events involving minors are led by adults and teenagers who have completed our Child Safety Training in accordance with our Child Protection Policy.
